FG commissions KWASU ICT centre to enhance graduate employability

Wife of the President Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has reiterated federal government’s commitment to advancing education, digital inclusion and enhancing graduate employability through the provisions of ultramodern ICT centres in Institutions of higher learning.

Senator Tinubu gave the stated this while speaking at the official
commissioning of a TETFund/Renewed Hope Initiative-backed ICT Experience Centre at the Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete in Kwara state.

Represented by the wife of the Vice-President, Nana Shettima, Tinubu said the project represents opportunity, innovation, knowledge, and the future of young people in Kwara State and beyond.

According to her the initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which places emphasis on youth empowerment, education, innovation, and economic transformation.

She said the President is committed to creating opportunities that will equip Nigerian youths with knowledge and skills required to thrive in a modern and competitive world.

Senator Tinubu said that the facility was designed as a modern technology centre equipped with ICT laboratory, interactive digital display, conference facility, and exhibition spaces, adding that it will be an environment for learning, creativity, research, and technology advancement.

She explained that the ICT centres had been commissioned at the Ekiti State University on May 28, University of Cross Rivers State on September 4, Anambra State Polytechnic on September 10, adding that the Centres at Kaduna State University and Taraba State Universities will be commissioned soon.

“The next phase of this intervention will cover 15 institutions in Adamawa, Bayelsa, Borno, Delta, Edo, Enugu, Imo, Katsina, Nasarawa, Niger, Ondo, Osun, Rivers, Yobe, and Zamfara states which construction is currently ongoing. This expansion demonstrates the administration’s commitment to ensuring that more Nigerian youths, irrespective of their locations, have access to digital learning opportunities”.

Senator Tinubu encouraged the students to take ownership of the facility, maximize the opportunity it provides, and use technology positively to enhance their lives, community, and the nation.

In his speech, the executive secretary of Tetfund, Architect Sonny Echono, said that the centres are being established across selected Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education, with the Kwara State University, Malete proudly hosting the facility in the North-Central Zone.

“Through practical training and digital skills acquisition, TETFund seeks to enhance graduate employability, foster innovation and position Nigeria to participate more effectively in the global
technology-driven economy”.

Echono also said that the ICT Experience Centre is designed to equip students and lecturers with critical digital skills in Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Robotics and Software Development.

“The Centre being commissioned today is one of the foremost ICT Experience Centres being delivered across the country, and the third to be commissioned this year. The Centre is equipped with modern digital devices, Computer systems and relevant software to facilitate training, practical learning and skills development. The facility is appropriately furnished and
fully air-conditioned, with supporting power and municipal infrastructure”.

On his part , the vice chancellor of the university, Professor Shaykh- Luqman Jimoh, said that the new facility represents vision, belief, and an investment in the Nigerian youth to better shape the future of our nation.

The vice chancellor, who described the ICT Experience Centre as an investment in human capital, in innovation, in entrepreneurship, and, most importantly, it is an investment in the future of Nigería.

“This Centre will provide opportunities for our students to develop practical digital skills and engage with contemporary technologies. Importantly, it is our hub for interdisciplinary engagement.

KWASU vice chancellor also assured that the ICT Experience Centre will be put to maximum use for the benefit of students, researchers, and the university
community, adding that the KWASU community will engage with the facilities in this Centre, we will use it. We will explore, experiment, learn, and innovate in it”.

NBTE Accredits 7 Courses In Kebbi’s Oldest Health Institution Jeg

The Kebbi State College of Health Sciences and Technology, Jega , has attained national recognition with the accreditation of seven professional courses under the administration of Governor Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu.

The Provost of the College, Alhaji Hussaini Aliyu, disclosed this when the Kebbi State Media Team, led by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, visited the institution on Wednesday.

He said the institution had overcome several challenges through the support of Governor Nasir Idris, particularly in the area of accreditation, the state government provided the necessary financial support for the accreditation exercise, resulting in the approval of key National Diploma programmes.

The Provost said the accredited programmes include Community Health, Health Education and Promotion, Health Information Management, Public Health, Environmental Health Technology, Medical Science Laboratory Technology, and other health-related programme, adding that, the accreditation had opened new opportunities for students while strengthening the national standing of the institution.

Alhaji Hussaini also highlighted improvements in infrastructure and staff and student welfare, including the renovation of male and female students’ hostels, construction of a new entrance gate and perimeter fence, provision of six functional boreholes—three of which are solar-powered—renovation of the ICT Centre, and provision of a new 36-seater bus.

The Chairman of the Governing Council, Alhaji Abdullahi Magaji Bunza, described the college as a major producer of health manpower for Kebbi State, noting that its graduates serve in primary, secondary and tertiary health facilities across the state.

He said the institution, which was established in the 1970s, had never previously secured accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for its programmes until the administration of Governor Nasir Idris.

Alhaji Bunza said the college is now admitting students through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) process following the NBTE accreditation, stressing that “all admissions now from this year must be from JAMB, as he described the development as a major milestone for the institution and its students.

The Chairman of the Accreditation Committee of the Governing Council, Alhaji Aliyu Ladan, said the committee recorded what he described as “100% success” after Governor Idris directed that the institution should acquire nationally recognized foundational programmes as the college is now listed on the JAMB e-Facility for National Diploma programmes and has commenced admissions.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, who led the Governor’s media aides to the institution, said the visit was aimed at seeing firsthand the developments recorded under the Kauran Gwandu-led administration.

He commended the college management and the Governing Council for their efforts and assured them that the Governor’s media team would continue to communicate the achievements of the administration to the people.

Vice President Shettima Counsels Politicians To Play Politics without BitternessThe Vice President Kashim Shettima has appealed to politicians to embrace one another and play politics without bitterness to ensure better growth and development of the country.

Shettima made the appeal while speaking at the Royal Turbaning of the governor of Kwara state as the Sardauna of Ilorin Emirate, by the Emir of Ilorin ,Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari held at the Emits Palace in Ilorin,Kwara state.

He advised Nigerians to serve with humility and do good to others as they will spend more time after office.

Shettima urged Nigerians to embrace one other and have the courage to forgive each other.

According to him power is given by God to the people he so wish and not because they are better than other.

The Vice President called on politicians to unite themselves as one family despite their political differences.

He said the President he served as his assistant is a good and decent man who has the interest of Nigerians at heart.

Shettima explained that when they assume office the economy of the country was about to collapse,but President Tinubu refused to pass blame and take it all upon himself.

He noted that during the 2023 electioneering campaign governors who supported President Tinubu are not more than six, based on the belief that Baba does not like him.

Shettima stressed that today the president embrace everybody as his own and things are going on well.

He described President Bola Tinubu as a good Man by all standard who believe in the people that work with him.

Shettima also thanked the Emir of Ilorin for the honour done to governor AbdulRazaq based on his contribution to the development of the state.

He said the father of the governor has planted a good foot print in the Ilorin Emirate and by extension Nigeria as a whole.

Shettima said that this news Chapter will create stronger bund between the Emirate and the family, adding that the
people will continue to pray for the progress and development of the Emirate and the state as a whole.

He commended governor AbdulRazaq for his efforts in improved on infrastructure to assist the people of the state.

Shettima also thanked the governor for his contribution to the actualisation of policies and programmes of government at the federal level to provide succour to average Nigerians.

In his remarks the Matawaliof Ilorin Emirate,Dr.Alimi AbdulRazaq said the title of Sardauna bestowed on the governor is well deserved.

He thanked the Emir of Ilorin for finding the governor worthy of being recognised by the Emirate.

Dr,Alimi urged the governor to see the tittle as a clarion call to provide more dividends of democracy to the nooks and crannies of the state.

The Turbanning ceremony witness large turnout of dignitaries which included the governor of Niger state,Umar Bago, government of Kaduna state Senator Uba Sani, Governor of Imo state ,Hope Uzodinma , governor of Kabbi ,Katsina states.

Others are the Emir of Zazzau Emirate , Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamali,the Deputy governors of Sokoto, Anambra, Nasarawa,Delta, Ondo , and Oyo states.

CP Tijjani Commissions Newly Modern Police Division In Birniwa LGA

The Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State Command, CP Tijjani Murtala, psc, mnips, has commissioned the newly modern Police Division (Abuja type II) in the Birniwa Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by Birniwa Local Government Council Chairman, the District Head of the Birniwa LGA, the representative of Senator Jigawa Northeast and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs, the Chief Imam of the Birniwa LGA, the State Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), members of the Jigawa State Police Command Management Team, Area Commander Hadejia, the Commanding Officer, 35 PMF Dutse, Heads of Sister Security Agencies, community representatives, and other critical stakeholders from Birniwa and neighboring communities.

The colorful occasion provided an opportunity for stakeholders to express their views and offer goodwill messages concerning the new facility, policing, security, and the need for sustained collaboration between the police and the communities they serve.

Prior to the remarks by the distinguished guests, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Birniwa Division presented a comprehensive briefing on the Division. The briefing highlighted the historical background of the Division, its operational activities and achievements, crime-fighting efforts, community engagement initiatives, and prevailing security challenges, as well as areas requiring further support and intervention.

In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State Police Command, CP Tijjani Murtala, psc, mnips, commended the efforts of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc (+), NPM, distinguished Senator Amb. Ahmed Abdulhamid Malam Madori, “the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs,” the Chairman of the Birniwa LG council, Hon. Shehu Baba, community leaders, stakeholders, and all those who contributed to the construction of the modern facility. He noted that the provision of a conducive and functional police facility would significantly improve the working environment of police personnel and enhance the Command’s ability to respond promptly and professionally to security threats within Birniwa and adjoining communities.

The CP reiterated that the Command’s policing strategy remains anchored on intelligence-led policing, community partnership, proactive crime prevention, rapid response, professionalism, accountability, respect for human rights, and effective collaboration with sister security agencies and other relevant stakeholders.

He called on the personnel of the newly commissioned Division to regard the facility as a center of service to humanity and to discharge their responsibilities with discipline, dedication, integrity, courage, and professionalism, while maintaining a strong relationship with the members of the public.

The Commissioner further urged traditional rulers, religious leaders, community leaders, youth groups, vigilante organizations, and other stakeholders to continue supporting the police through timely provision of credible information and intelligence capable of preventing crime and facilitating the arrest and prosecution of criminal elements.

In a further demonstration of the Command’s commitment to the welfare of its personnel and the people they serve, the Commissioner of Police and his entourage, during the visit, paid a condolence and solidarity visit to the family and relatives of a police corporal who tragically lost his life while responding to a distress call arising from an armed robbery incident in Hadejia town.

The Commissioner of Police commiserated with the bereaved family and expressed the Command’s profound sympathy over the painful loss. He acknowledged the fallen officer’s sacrifice and dedication to duty, noting that his death was a painful reminder of the risks police officers confront in the course of protecting lives and property.

The CP assured the family that the sacrifice of the deceased officer would not be forgotten and conveyed the solidarity and condolences of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc (+), NPM, and the entire Nigeria Police Force.

The Commissioner also visited and personally inspected the scene of the armed robbery incident in Hadejia town, where he assessed the circumstances surrounding the incident, reviewed the security situation, and received operational briefings from officers on the ground.

He directed the DPO Hadejia ‘A’ Division and the investigative units of the Command to intensify efforts towards identifying, arresting, and bringing all perpetrators connected to the incident to justice. He equally called for enhanced intelligence gathering, community engagement, and proactive patrols within Hadejia and other identified flashpoints across the Command.

The Commissioner assured residents of Birniwa, Hadejia, and the entire people of Jigawa State that the Police Command remains resolute in its constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property, preventing and detecting crime, maintaining public order, and ensuring that criminals have no safe haven within the State.
