KASPA Explores Lagos’ Digital, Data-Driven Social Protection System

The Kano State Social Protection Agency (KASPA) has embarked on a two-day learning visit to the Lagos State Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget to gain practical insights into Lagos State’s digital, coordinated and data-driven social protection system, with a view to identifying approaches applicable to Kano State.

The visit, led by the Director-General of KASPA, Haj. Fateema Abubakar Abdullahi (Amneef), focused on exploring Lagos institutional arrangements, financing mechanisms, digital systems, data management and practical approaches to social protection implementation.

Welcoming the Kano delegation, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, Mrs. Olayinka Ojo, highlighted social inclusion and social security, skills development, and job creation as key components of Lagos State’s social protection approach.

Speaking during the engagement, the Director of Social Protection, Lagos State Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Yusuf Samiu O., said the visit provided an opportunity to strengthen collaboration and facilitate experience-sharing between the two institutions.

In her remarks, the KASPA Director-General, Haj. Fateema Abubakar Abdullahi (Amneef), expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget for the warm reception and hospitality extended to the delegation.

She described the experience and knowledge shared during the engagement as valuable to Kano State’s efforts to strengthen its social protection system.

“The experience shared, the social protection programmes and interventions highlighted, as well as the inter-ministerial data-sharing protocol, are impressive and invaluable to Kano State’s social protection context.”Said the D.G

A major highlight of the learning visit was a series of presentations by social protection focal persons from various Lagos State ministries, departments and agencies, showcasing programmes and interventions designed to reduce poverty and vulnerability and improve the livelihoods of vulnerable populations.

The delegation also received presentations on “Social Protection Policy Implementation in Lagos State” and the “Lagos State Single Social Register”, delivered by Mrs. Fajemibola D., Head of the Programme Coordinating Unit, SPDC.

In a statement signed by Director Public Enlightnment state social protection council KASPA Rabi’u Ibrahim Khalil Said the Kano delegation also shared its experience on social protection implementation in the state, with Mal. Dalhatu Danladi presenting an overview of Kano State’s social protection implementation efforts.

The learning visit is part of KASPA’s efforts to strengthen institutional capacity, promote evidence-based planning and identify practical approaches for developing a more coordinated, sustainable and data-driven social protection system in Kano State.

Niger State Govt Imposes Dusk To Dawn Curfew In Minna, Its  Environs

Niger State Government has imposed a dusk to dawn curfew in Minna the state capital ọver the death ọf thirty seven miners in the state.

Thẹ curfew was imposed after some aggrieved youth took ọver the street following the death ọf thirty seven miners in Civil Defence custody in which they resort to attacking a bank, Government vehicles  and ransacking party offices.

Governor Mohammed Umar Bago who stated this while addressing Federal Government officials including the Minister ọf Interior at the Government House Minna, said the mob action that erufted on Thursday had left the state Transport Company fleet vandalised and people businesses looted by vandals among others.

Hẹ however explained that imposing the 6pm to 6am curfew had became imperative to restore order as vandals werẹ talking ọver the street whẹre the state Government has ordered the immediate suspension ọf all mining activities including legal and illegal acriss the state until soil test is determine.

Thẹ Governor also appealed to people ọf the state to remain peaceful and orderly and keep their children at home to ensure that such cases werẹ nip in the bud.

Minister Ọf Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo expressed Federal Government deep sympathy and gave an assurance that the incident would not be allowed to slide, while the Ministry will collaborate with Niger State Government to get to the root ọf the progrsmme.
